December 2018: To celebrate 25 years of founding of our institution, we held a conference on Thursday, 6th Dec. and Friday, 7th Dec. 2018 "Embodying Compassion: Avalokitesvara in Buddhist Art", in collaboration with Hangzhou Buddhist Academy. The Hon'ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, was the Chief Guest and the keynote address was delivered by Prof Huang Zheng, Asst Rector of the Hangzhou Buddhist Academy.

Renowned scholars from India, China, Belgium, Japan, USA, Cambodia and Germany participated and the proceedings will be published next year.


September 2010 Theme: "Buddhist Meditation: Texts, Traditions and Practice". Collaborators: Vietnam Buddhist University, Hanoi, Vietnam, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Patna, Dept. of Philosophy, University of Mumbai, Mumbai, ICCR.This conference proceedings are being edited by Ven. Dr. Khammai Dhammasami and Prof. Charles Willemen

January 2008 Theme: "Buddhist Culture in Asia: Unity in Diversity". Collaborators: Dept. of Philosophy, University of Mumbai, Mumbai, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Patna, Dept. Of Pali, Pune University and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai, China.

March 2006 Theme: “Dharma and Abhidharma” Collaborators: Dept. of Philosophy, University of Mumbai, and Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Patna and Shuchin University, Kyoto. More than 45 scholars participated.


March 2004 Theme: “Contribution of Buddhism to World Culture”. Collaborators: Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Patna, and Otani University, Kyoto, Japan. More than 95 scholars participated, from India as well as from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, Europe and USA.

March 2002 Theme: “Buddhism in Global Perspective”. Collaborators: Otani University, Kyoto, Japan and Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Patna, India. Of the total more than 60, scholars from nations where Buddhism is the state religion Participated, in addition to 35 Indian scholars. The conference was inaugurated by the then Consul General of Japan in Mumbai, H.E.  Yuizaki Kaku and the keynote address was delivered by the renowned scholar, Dr. Lokesh Chandra.


March 1995. Theme: “Buddhism in India and Abroad: An Integrating Influence in Vedic and Post-Vedic Perspective.” Collaborators: Shuchin University, Japan and the Dept. of Philosophy, University of Mumbai. There were 35 participants, seven of whom were from Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and the USA.
