The K J Somaiya Centre for  Buddhist Studies seeks to facilitate the study and research of Buddhist traditions as they developed in India and their transformation as they made contact with different Asian cultures. Such studies will be undertaken in a rigorous academic environment and will be based on diverse approaches that include historical, doctrinal, philosophical, and cultural aspects of the transmission. Recognising that Buddhism is a living tradition, the Centre will also facilitate interaction with practitioners from different traditions, for textual study and meditation practice. The Centre will actively encourage the study of Buddhism in its modern context, specifically on social, cultural and ethical issues, as well as in personal development. Outreach activity will be an important dimension to the Centre's work and will include activities that facilitate spiritual practice, study and contemplation on the one hand, and physical wellness and livelihood support on the other.
